Draft Torment online on CubeForge
Discard cards for value, turn the graveyard into a resource, and navigate a draft environment deliberately dominated by black.
Draft Torment
Torment is a 143-card expansion from 2002 built as Magic's deliberately “black” set. Black has 40 cards, while white and green have only 21 each, making the standalone draft environment intentionally unbalanced by color. Madness debuts here, turning discard outlets into ways to cast spells at reduced costs, while threshold and flashback continue Odyssey's graveyard themes. Black and red also feature Nightmare creatures with temporary exile effects, and four Tainted lands reward black-based decks by fixing another color once you control a Swamp. Rather than expecting ten equal color pairs, draft around black's depth or the set's concentrated discard and graveyard synergies.

Archetypes
A quick reference for the main decks and strategies to look for while drafting this set cube.
Heavy Black Control
Take advantage of the set's unusually deep black pool with removal, discard, and cards that reward heavy Swamp commitments, then use Tainted lands to support a second color when needed.
UG Madness
Use blue discard outlets such as Aquamoeba and Compulsion to cast Basking Rootwalla, Arrogant Wurm, Circular Logic, and Obsessive Search for value while building toward threshold.
UR Madness Tempo
Pair blue's discard outlets with Fiery Temper and Violent Eruption, using efficient burn and evasive creatures to turn discarded cards into tempo instead of lost resources.
BR Removal & Nightmares
Combine black's deep removal suite and Nightmare creatures with red burn and discard effects, creating a removal-heavy deck that can also enable madness cards.
