War of the Spark (WAR) is a standalone 2019 set that concludes the Ravnica storyline centered on Nicol Bolas. The Limited environment is defined by an unprecedented number of planeswalkers appearing at uncommon and higher rarities, creating board states unlike most draft formats. Amass and Proliferate are the primary mechanics, with many decks built around generating value from planeswalkers, +1/+1 counters, and token armies. The format is generally slower and more board-focused than many contemporary sets, rewarding efficient creatures, removal, and the ability to pressure opposing planeswalkers. While ten color pairs are supported, successful decks often blend themes and occasionally splash powerful cards thanks to green fixing and multicolor support. WAR is remembered as a deep Limited format where synergy, board management, and planeswalker evaluation matter as much as raw card quality.
