Gatecrash is the second set of the Return to Ravnica block and focuses on five guilds: Boros, Dimir, Gruul, Orzhov, and Simic. The set introduces battalion, cipher, bloodrush, extort, and evolve, creating a Limited environment defined by creature combat and board presence. Boros pressures opponents with aggressive curves, Gruul rewards attacking and combat tricks, Simic builds growing threats through evolve, Orzhov grinds value with extort, and Dimir plays a more evasive tempo game. Compared to many modern formats, Gatecrash is relatively guild-driven, with successful decks usually committing to one of the five supported color pairs. The format is often remembered for the strength of aggressive Boros decks and the resilience of Orzhov control strategies.
