Magic Origins (ORI) was released in 2015 as the final core set in Magic's history before the transition to the two-set block model. The Limited environment combines traditional core set fundamentals with a stronger focus on synergy than many previous core sets. Renown rewards early combat pressure, while spell mastery and prowess encourage careful sequencing and spell-heavy decks. The format supports several tribal and mechanical themes, but successful drafts still rely heavily on efficient creatures, combat tricks, and solid curve construction. Games tend to be interactive and creature-focused, with renown creating important early-game decisions and multiple archetypes capable of transitioning into longer value-oriented games. The format is generally considered slightly slower than Dragons of Tarkir Limited while still rewarding proactive play.
