Coldsnap Draft

Draft a frozen small-set format where snow lands are real picks, duplicates get stronger, and unusual synergy decks reward reading the table.

Draft Coldsnap

Coldsnap (CSP) is the 2006 “lost” third set of the Ice Age block, but its historical draft environment was three packs of Coldsnap. Snow, ripple, recover, and cumulative upkeep lead the mechanics, while many commons deliberately reward collecting multiple copies. Snow lands matter heavily to cards such as Skred and Rimewind Taskmage, and fixing from snow duals and Into the North can support splashes, but the format is less about fixed color-pair lanes than finding an open engine and drafting deeply around it.

Archetypes

A quick reference for the main decks and strategies to look for while drafting this set cube.

Snow Control

Usually two colors with an occasional splash; prioritize snow lands to power Skred, Rimewind Taskmage, Frost Raptor, Zombie Musher, and other snow payoffs.

B/R Beatdown

Curve out with cheap creatures and removal, then use Grim Harvest and resilient threats to keep pressure on after trades.

G/R Aurochs

Ramp with Boreal Druid and Into the North, chain Aurochs Herds, and combine trampling creatures with red removal and reach.

White War Cry

Collect multiple Kjeldoran War Cry and maintain a high creature count; green adds trampling Aurochs, blue adds flyers, and red adds removal.

Red Martyr Control

Use multiple Martyr of Ashes to repeatedly punish creature-heavy boards, backed by burn, snow cards, and sometimes Icefall for a deeper attrition plan.
