Magic 2012 (M12) is the thirteenth core set, released in 2011. Like many core set Limited environments, M12 emphasizes fundamental Magic skills such as creature combat, curve management, combat tricks, and removal evaluation. While the format contains some tribal and synergy elements, most successful decks are built around efficient creatures and strong individual card quality rather than complex engines. Bloodthirst is the set's primary returning mechanic, rewarding aggressive play and early damage. Removal is generally strong, flyers are important, and games often revolve around establishing battlefield presence while maximizing tempo and combat efficiency.
