Shards of Alara is the first set of Alara block and a multicolor Limited environment built around five three-color shards. Unlike later Alara drafts, triple-Shards is the original draft format, so a Shards of Alara set cube closely matches its first Limited experience. Bant uses exalted to attack with one strong creature, Esper turns artifacts into a major deck-building theme, Grixis gets extra value from unearth, Jund converts creatures into threats with devour, and Naya rewards large creatures. Drafting is largely about finding the right shard, reading which allied color pair is open, and taking enough mana fixing to cast your gold spells. Tri-lands, Panoramas, and Obelisks make ambitious mana bases possible, but disciplined three-color decks remain the baseline.
