Draft Darksteel online on CubeForge

Fuel explosive Affinity starts, move +1/+1 counters through Modular creatures, or suit up a fast white beatdown deck in old-school Mirrodin Limited.

Draft Darksteel

Darksteel (DST) is the 165-card second set of the original Mirrodin block, released in February 2004. It introduced Modular, allowing Arcbound artifact creatures to pass their +1/+1 counters to another artifact creature when they die, and introduced Magic’s first indestructible permanents. Darksteel also expands Affinity with a cycle based on basic land types while continuing the artifact-heavy structure, Equipment, Imprint, and Affinity for artifacts established in Mirrodin. Historically, Darksteel was drafted as Mirrodin / Mirrodin / Darksteel (MMD), so two-thirds of the card pool still came from Mirrodin. Affinity lost one pack of artifact lands but remained one of the format’s defining decks, while Darksteel strengthened heavy-black strategies and added more tools for white beatdown. Mana Myr and Talismans from Mirrodin plus Darksteel Ingot and Mirrodin's Core make splashes possible, though land-affinity Golems reward decks with a substantial commitment to their basic land type.

Archetypes

A quick reference for the main decks and strategies to look for while drafting this set cube.

Blue Affinity

Draft artifact lands and cheap artifacts aggressively to power out Thoughtcast, Somber Hoverguard, Myr Enforcer, and other Affinity threats ahead of curve.

Heavy Black

Commit heavily to Swamps to maximize black’s demanding cards and Darksteel additions such as Chittering Rats and Grimclaw Bats, backed by removal and artifact creatures.

White Equipment Beatdown

Curve out with cheap white creatures, pair them with Equipment, and use cards such as Auriok Glaivemaster, Raise the Alarm, and combat-oriented interaction to keep attacking.

Green-White Beatdown

Combine green creatures and combat tricks with white tokens, flyers, and Blinding Beam-style tempo to build a creature-heavy deck that can punish slower artifact strategies.
