Draft Fifth Dawn online on CubeForge
Turn Mirrodin’s mana artifacts into a rainbow engine, maximize Sunburst, or stay artifact-heavy and exploit Affinity in the final Mirrodin block draft format.
Draft Fifth Dawn
Fifth Dawn (5DN) is the 165-card third set of the original Mirrodin block, released in June 2004. It introduced Sunburst, which rewards spending several different colors of mana on artifacts, and Scry, which first appeared here as Scry 2. Historically, Fifth Dawn was drafted as Mirrodin / Darksteel / Fifth Dawn, commonly called MD5, so Affinity, Equipment, artifact lands, Myr, modular creatures, and other themes from the first two sets remain important. Fifth Dawn pushes drafters toward additional colors through Sunburst, with Myr, artifact lands, Darksteel Ingot, Mirrodin's Core, Pentad Prism, and green fixing helping the plan. Dedicated five-color decks are possible, but contemporary advice also supports staying primarily two colors unless your fixing justifies stretching the mana base.

Archetypes
A quick reference for the main decks and strategies to look for while drafting this set cube.
Five-Color Green Sunburst
Prioritize green fixing, Myr, mana artifacts, and additional colored sources, then maximize Sunburst cards such as Skyreach Manta and other scalable artifacts.
Blue-Based Affinity Sunburst
Keep a high artifact count for Affinity while drafting off-color artifact lands, Myr, and fixing that can also give your Sunburst cards three or more colors.
Black Affinity
Use artifact lands and cheap artifacts to power Affinity and black artifact payoffs, with Fifth Dawn cards such as Cranial Plating helping preserve the aggressive artifact shell.
White Cog Control
Buy time with defensive creatures, then reuse cheap artifacts and Spellbombs with Leonin Squire and Leonin Salvagers to generate repeated value.
